I've always been fascinated and enamored with the various speedform sculptures that are displayed by design studios and created as trophies, so I decided to invest some time in studying a few concept cars and bringing them down to their simpler forms bringing out the sculptural beauty in them.
The Jaguar CX-75 concept has always been one of my favorites due to its spot-on stance and generous haunches giving it a look that makes me feel that it is always ready to pounce. This was a great form study and a challenge to model due to not having the traditional surface cuts that allow for highlight breaks to disappear, in the pure speedform there is no escaping this.
I decided to print the Alias model in both 1:43 and 1:18 scale. The 1:18 was printed professionally on a Nylon SLS printer and the 1:43 was printed on my home resin 3D printer.
I find the process of cleaning the print and sanding it to a mirror finish very therapeutic. I printed this in a blue bio-degradable resin which was a good idea since I had white primer and the blue was a good contrast.
I am super happy with the final result especially the 1:43 scale print done on my home printer. The reflections came out as I expected but what surprised me was the print quality. There are certainly some stubborn issues which could be eliminated by a change in print orientation but I felt that having a flat base was important to me. Enjoy the images!
